Lincoln Financial Field is home to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and the Temple University Owls football team. Located in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lincoln Financial Field opened in 2003 hosting a soccer match between Manchester United and FC Barcelona. While the stadium is primarily used for football, a number of soccer matches and other events have taken place there including serving as the home venue for MLS’s Philadelphia Union for the 2010 season.
Another notable event that takes place regularly at ?The Linc’ is the annual Army ? Navy football game which is typically attended by the President of the United States. The game is scheduled to be held at Lincoln Financial Field in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
The $512 million venue has seen its fair share of winning, as the Eagles have hosted an abundance of playoff games including a pair of NFC Championship games in 2004 and 2005. An interesting and unique tidbit involves spectators having the ability to bring in outside food, typically cheese steak sandwiches and hoagies. This act was banned for one game in the inaugural season, but was quickly overturned following a large amount of backlash from the fan base.
With a standing room only capacity of 69,144, Lincoln Financial Field is the 18th largest stadium in the NFL.
